MEET THE TEAM
Childbirth Educator, Birth Doula, Yoga Teacher, Postpartum Doula, Placenta Specialist, Car Seat Technician
Amanda is a wife, an amateur artist, & road trip lover. Amanda's strengths lie in her ability to combine passions. She has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and passes research on in a practical way while also seeking to motivate families to find their own inner wisdom. She values evidence-based information, but also understands the importance of parental decision-making based on personal values and lifestyles. These two halves of her birth-worker personality led her to become both an Evidence Based Birth Instructor & a Birthing From Within Mentor.
Amanda's path toward birth & body work began with employment at a local homeless shelter for pregnant women. After attending a resident's birth, Amanda realized she wanted to make a career out of helping women and families. While completing her B.A. in Sociology: Families & Children, she founded Your Birth Team in order to build a comprehensive private practice while also continuing her work at Casa Teresa. Now, Amanda is enrolled as a midwifery student to fulfill her long-term goal of becoming a community based midwife.
Car Seat Technician
Taylor is a husband, a musician, & an amazing home-based chef. Taylor has worked behind the scenes at Your Birth Team since 2014, managing administration needs. He trained as a placenta specialist through Full Circle Placenta in 2014 and has been serving families in that capacity since 2015. Taylor has attended two births as a co-doula for families seeking support for both parents throughout. Though not actively taking on doula clients, he has a passion for helping people wherever he is needed and is honored to have witnessed the birth of new life.
Taylor's passion for helping growing families shines bright when volunteering at local shelters like Precious Life Shelter and Casa Teresa. He has acted as a donation coordinator, cooking skills instructor, and Thanksgiving Dinner chef over the years and truly enjoys bringing smiles to faces.
In 2018, Taylor certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician and has since installed and checked seats for dozens of families in and around Orange County. He loves being able to guide expecting families and established parents as they figure out how to navigate the world of car seats.
Our Mission & Values
Our team offers truly non-judgmental support to any family in Orange County, CA and some surrounding areas. At the end of the day, our primary goal in our work with doula and education clients is to prevent or minimize trauma in childbirth by thoroughly preparing families for all the variations that could take place.
Our members are LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, welcome clients of any religious, ethnic, or cultural background, and are plus-size birth supporters. Our team works with high-risk pregnancies, those with fertility treatment history, and VBAC families. Additionally, we are highly experienced working with all out of hospital birth settings in the area, including birth centers and home births with midwives. All of our clients are unique, as are their needs for support during the birthing period; we feel absolutely privileged to be able to walk alongside families of all shapes, colors, and creeds as they prepare to become parents.
Doulas are professionals who have been trained to comfort and support families through the prenatal period, labor, birth, and the first few months postpartum. They offer information and translate medical terminology so parents can easily understand their options; they seek to be a stable, emotionally supportive presence throughout; and they comfort folks using various techniques such as massage, acupressure, distraction, hypnosis, and verbal cues.
Birth Doulas provide support to families in hospitals, birth centers, & home births. They work with OB/GYNs, Certfied Nurse-Midwives (CNM), & Certified Professional Midwives (CPM/LM) collaboratively. We never tell you how you should give birth, providing information and a listening ear at every step of the way.
Postpartum Doulas provide support in families' homes, at doctor's appointments, & sometimes in the hospital following birth. We offer practical assistance with daily life tasks like grocery shopping, errand running, and meal preparation as well as more individualized support. Emotional and physical recovery from birth can take weeks or months, and the transition is often marked with a lot of sleepless nights in addition to aches and pains during recovery. A postpartum doula's job is to help ease the discomfort, answer questions along the way, & encourage confidence in new parents.
